"Hope"

Hope

A young Greek girl child tenderly holds her beloved dove of peace before releasing it to fly to the heavens, and spread its message to other lands. Hope and fear walk hand in hand and we can never know what the future holds. There is a touch of concern for her pet in her innocence, and regret at their parting. Yet it is this necessary letting go in life that enables growth.

Hope is crowned with a garland of olive leaves resting on her long blonde mohair locks. She wears a soft blue pleated silk chiffon chiton, joined at the shoulder with gold spiral pins and hemmed with gold threads, tied at the waist with a gold ribbon. She is a full body sculpt 11 1/2" tall in Pro-Sculpt, standing on a small circular wooden base. Her dove is sculpted in paperclay.

The creation of Hope was my way of dealing with the absurdities of our recent election, and came as the needed message for the new year of 2001. She embodies the hope for peace and love, for freedom, for a secure future that holds serenity and joy. A little hope is something we all can all use in this world.
