Summer 2003 saw some kids returning for the fourth or sixth time. It's been wonderful to watch them grow as well as their characters and skills evolve! We added a soft sculpture project as they painted fabric goddesses. (See below for more).
Summer 2002 we focused on Myth, as campers created their own 3-D sculpted characters and explored the stories that emerge. Every session is a little different, depending upon the individual kids, their interests, ages, and the weather. We work in the studio, lunch and work outside in the patio under a large maple, sit in the castle, dance in the yard, and can walk nearby to find plenty more Nature if we need it. (Facilities are in the main house, cleverly disguised as a neolithic cave) Activities were varied to sustain interest and flow. We also indulged in mask-making and book-making as well as creating the figures. In Summer 2001 we explored the worlds of faerie and myth. Each week included an exploration of the four elements in paint and words and making 3-D little spirit dancers, drawing self-potraits, blind drawing, etc., wing-making, creating a sketchbook/journal covered with handmade paper collage, writing poems and wishes to hang in the trees, as well as all the steps in the creation of their figures, and the unfolding dramas of how each character related to the others. Other options we pursued were sketching outdoors at a nearby lake, nature printing, creature and costume collages, music making in the enchanted castle, face painting, scarf and bubble-dancing, and jumping through the sprinkler during a heatwave! |
